Todd Anderson, Ian Van Coller, Bruce Crownover and Dr. Gary Machlis, with Nicole Maria Evans, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections
Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art presents an inspired selection of works created by The Last Glacier collaborative artist group. Through their work the artists honor and bring attention to areas of environmental concern. The Last Glacier Project and Sentinels are two special exhibitions that are shown together, both offer insightful, noteworthy, and moving images, accompanied with scientific research, that highlight and comment on the changing environment. Detailed and focused photographs by Ian Van Coller, are shown alongside the richly layered and textured reductive woodcut prints by Todd Anderson and Bruce Crownover. Included in this special exhibition will be two featured artist books, The Last Glacier and ROMO (Rocky Mountain National Park). These books are limited in number and found only in special collections, they are the culmination of the projects work and are exquisitely bound.
For Sentinels, Members of The Last Glacier artist collective, Bruce Crownover and Todd Anderson, with special contributor Gary Machlis, University Professor of Environmental Sustainability at Clemson University collaborated on a new project to combine image and word. Sentinels: The Piñon Pine and Juniper Trees of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments, Utah (2017-2021) investigates the effects of aridification on piñon pine and juniper tree species in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments in the deserts of southeastern Utah. The project culminated with individualized woodcut prints and an edition (of 11) of monumentally sized artist’s books. Fine woodcut prints from this book project will be featured in the Sentinels exhibition at The Square, and a special presentation of the book will occur on September 16, 2022 at the artist and expert panel discussion.
